Apache failing quietly?

Okay since this happens once in a blue moon I often find myself forgetting where to begin the troubleshooting, maybe now I’ll remember! Switching logging up to debug with the -e switch to httpd rarely shows up anything wrong, so start checking out the logs, not for information, but to see what’s wrong with the files themselves. I do find that most of the time it’s all down to log files.

Did you remove/archive them whilst Apache was running, do you use rotatelogs or something, have a good think..

Clean things out, touch missing log files, try adding a -f flag to rotatelogs pipes.
